History of Rasor Elementary

Rasor Elementary School was named in honor of one of Plano’s earliest and most successful settlers, John Henry Rasor. Rasor came to Plano from Kentucky in 1880 and quickly established himself as a leader in the area’s agricultural development. Along with his ten sons, he began purchasing farmland throughout the region and built a highly organized farming operation.
At its peak, the Rasor enterprise included hundreds of acres of farmland, large barns and granaries, hog houses, towering silos, feed lots, and blacksmith shops. The family’s hard work and innovation helped shape the agricultural foundation of early Plano and contributed to the city’s growth during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The Rasor family was known not only for their farming success, but also for their commitment to community and progress. Their legacy reflects the same values Rasor Elementary strives to uphold today—hard work, perseverance, innovation, and a strong sense of community.
Today, Rasor Elementary honors this history by fostering a learning environment where students are encouraged to grow, lead and contribute positively to their community, just as the Rasor family did generations ago.
Rasor Elementary School Song
Written by Jan Jacobs for Rasor Elementary, 1991
(Sung to the tune of "Off We Go, Into the Wild Blue Yonder")
Here we come, we are the Rasor Rockets.
We're polite, honest and true.
We are proud, proud of our school and country,
So we wear red, white and blue.
We work hard, we're not afraid of challenge
For we know the future is ours.
Let's give a cheer, our time is here.
Rasor Rockets reach for the stars!
All right Rasor elementary school rockets
Are you ready to reach?
Reach for the stars.
Reach for the stars
You gotta believe
In Who we are and what we can be
There’s nothing too hard for us to achieve
If we all do our part
We can reach, reach for the stars
Reach for the stars
Rasor rockets that’s who we are
We got friendship and honesty
Compassion, responsibility
Red, white, and blue
All kinds of people like me and you
Helping each other is how we discover
The wonder of what we can do
Reach for the stars
You gotta believe
In Who we are and what we can be
There’s nothing too hard for us to achieve
If we all do our part
We can reach, reach for the stars
Look inside and see
We all have unique abilities
Awesome possibilities
Hopes and dreams
When we imagine when we believe
There’s no end to what we can achieve
So let’s listen, learn, and teach
Come on everybody let’s reach.
Reach for the stars
You gotta believe
In Who we are and what we can be
There’s nothing too hard for us to achieve
If we all do our part
We can reach, reach for the stars
Reach for the stars.
